The major languages spoken in the district Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri. Apart from these languages other main dialects spoken in the district are Pehari, Goujri etc. The Dogri one of the modern language spoken in the Jammu region of the Jammu & Kashmir State. The Dogri language belongs to the Aryan languages. Many word of the Dogri language are derived from the Hindi & Sanskrit words. In fact the language is written in the Devnagari Script.
